Cody's Reflections

“The mark of a great church is not it’s seating capacity, but it’s sending capacity.” -Mike Stachura

I have been on numerous church missions trips throughout my life and on each one, something amazing has happened. On the last missions trip I went on, I realized that missions trips are more than a trip that you just walk away from at the end of the week. It isn’t a vacation or a cross-cultural experience. A missions trip is exactly what it sounds like, a trip with a specific mission. God has provided us with the resources necessary to do a trip as such to India and that is what I am most excited about, a chance to serve and minister to people in need.

The children that we will be helping out with in India have been orphaned for believing in God and even though I have not even met them yet, I am amazed at their faith and dedication. Even though we are going to minister the kids, I have a feeling that we will learn so much from them.

There are going to be a lot of things that I will struggle with in India, the fact that there is no hot water and that our showers will be taken using buckets. Also the prospect of waking up at 5 in the morning every day slightly unnerves me. With that being said, I think that this lack of simple commodities will help me to understand what these children go through on a day to day basis and will help us to integrate with them.

Finally, I would like to thank everyone that supported and contributed towards this trip.

Cody is a grade 9 student at South Island School.  He plays rugby on his school team and volunteers with the A/V ministry at Community Church.  Cody has been on several mission trips, including our last mission trip to the Philippines.

  1. Love the quote Cody! Thanks for your genuine and honest sharing. In a rapidly changing and material-centered world, it's very easy to be caught up with the busyness and complexities of life. Enjoy the experience of being in touch with humanity at its core and embracing the simple faith in the little children that God has called each of us to have. : )
